Brahmanbaria to have power plant that generates electricity from waste

The government will construct a power plant where each unit will cost Tk 21.16 and electricity will be generated from waste materials. The 13 megawatt (MW) electricity-generating facility will be constructed by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

If electricity is bought at tariff rates, the government will need to pay around Tk 4,068 crore to the plant at a rate of Tk 21.105 a kilowatt hour for 25 years. Purchasing for the establishment of the plant in the Brahmanbaria municipality was approved by the Bangladesh Power Development Board, according to Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan’s statement following the meeting.

Furthermore, tariff sanction was granted by the cabinet committee to the BPDB for the establishment of a 100-MW (AC) solar power plant in Sonagazi upazila, Feni. The government will be obligated to pay the plant with Tk 3,566.4 crore over a 20-year period, or Tk 11.0058 per kilowatt hour, if electricity is bought at tariff rates.
