Emiliano Martinez, the goalie for Argentina, said on Monday that he is going to Bangladesh through his social media account.
The winner of the FIFA World Cup 2022 said he was excited to meet Bangladesh fans when he went on a trip of the Indian subcontinent from July 3 to 5.
“Hello Everybody, From July 3rd to July 5th, I’ll be on my first trip to the Indian subcontinent, where I’ll take part in a lot of charitable activities. I’ll be the chief guest at a charity football match at the Mohunbagan club, among other things, and I’ll also do a lot of fan engagement programs, thank sponsors, and support the beautiful game. I know that there are a lot of Argentina fans in Kolkata and Bangladesh, and I can’t wait to meet them,” he wrote on Facebook.
Satadru Dutta, a sports promoter from Kolkata who is bringing the goalie from Argentina and Aston Villa to the subcontinent, said he would soon go to Bangladesh to tell everyone about the tour.
“We all know that Emiliano Martinez is a star in this part of the world, and he is very excited to come to Bangladesh,” Dutta told The Daily Star over the phone on Monday.
“He will come to Dhaka on July 3 for sure.” But there are some details that need to be worked out, and I will soon go to Dhaka to meet with sponsors and state organizations to talk about protection and the details of his schedule.
“He will probably meet and talk with a sponsor over lunch, and he will probably do the same with another sponsor over dinner. Then, he would probably meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and, if she has time, give her a shirt. If possible, there might also be a stadium event,” said Dutta, who has brought football stars like Pele and Diego Maradona to Kolkata in the past.
