At least 4000 children killed in Gaza by Israel in war ‘against Hamas’

As Israeli bombs struck a school serving as a place of refuge and landed outside a hospital, the United Nations warned of a “catastrophic” situation for children in Gaza, as pressure mounted on Israel over the civilian suffering caused by its campaign.

The UN estimates that more than forty percent of those killed in Gaza following nearly four weeks of conflict were children; 3,900 child victims have been reported, and an additional 1,250 are presumed to be buried beneath bombed structures. Inadequate rescue equipment, overcrowded hospitals, and dwindling supplies render the possibilities of survival for those stuck in rubble unbearably rare. Over the last 29 days, an average of 130 have been killed each day.
