The board of directors of OpenAI, the organization that developed the artificial intelligence platforms ChatGPT and GPT-4, has terminated Sam Altman’s position as CEO. This momentous choice made by the firm, supported by Microsoft signifies a substantial transformation in the technological sector. According to the statement released by OpenAI on Friday, the board has lost confidence in Altman’s capacity to effectively lead the organization.
The decision for this leadership change came after a long review process by the board, which found Altman’s communication with them as lacking in transparency, thereby hindering their governance role. The board, in acknowledging Altman’s valuable contributions, emphasized the significance of appointing fresh leadership to steer the organization’s future undertakings. However, the specific factors that prompted Altman’s departure were not elaborated upon in the statement. Mira Murati, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of OpenAI, has been appointed as the acting CEO in the interim. A permanent successor is yet to be found to lead the $90 billion company.
