The Weeknd donates $2.5 million to Gaza

The Weeknd (who now goes by his real name Abel Tesfaye) is well known for his work with charities. The musician, who is also a goodwill advocate for The World Food Program, recently gave $2.5 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to help the WFP’s work in Gaza. According to the organization, the gift, which is equal to four million emergency meals, will help send out 820 metric tons (about 1.8 million pounds) of food parcels, which will feed over 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks.

The ongoing crisis is rooted in weeks of intense bombardment by Israeli defense forces in retaliation to a surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

WFP Regional Director Corinne Fleischer emphasised, “Our teams require stable and continuous humanitarian access, along with constant support from benefactors, to reach as many people as possible. We express gratitude to Abel for this significant contribution to the people of Palestine and hope others will emulate Abel’s example by supporting our ongoing efforts.”
