5 patients found with COVID variant JN.1 in Bangladesh: IEDCR

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control, and Research (IEDCR) has confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant subtype JN.1 in Bangladesh. The WHO has previously informed the global community about this new subtype, which spreads rapidly but exhibits milder symptoms.

The emergence of this variant highlights the need for continued vigilance and public health measures, as it is a subtype of the Omicron variant, which is characterized by milder symptoms.

Director of IEDCR Professor Tahmina Shirin announced in a press statement that the JN.1 variant was detected in samples from 5 individuals. The samples were collected from both COVID-19 patients in the capital and those living outside the capital.
